Today is New Year’s Day…the day we celebrate heading into a new year with ideas, resolutions and hopes for a brand New Year. I hope you enjoy looking through all the related links throughout this blog.

At this time of year, before charting my plans for the New Year, I like to reflect upon the past year with its ups, downs, turns and twists. I think looking at history can make us better by understanding where we’ve come and where we’re going. Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it. This is a quote I’ve heard and read many times and I agree with this statement.

Let’s take a look at 2014 in the rear view mirror. This past year in transportation the driver, truck, trailer and even train shortage made headlines.

Driver shortage . Truck and trailer shortage. Train shortage.

In regards to industry regulations, the year brought a "back to the future" moment with hours of service.

I personally had some old school experiences at truck stops this year that reminded me of when I first began driving.

At the end of 2013 and beginning of 2014, there were several owner operators who built what has been referred to as “clones” of my Freightliner Cascadia Evolution. I had the opportunity through the Team Run Smart website to share some of their experiences since owning their trucks.

    Nights of the road

This year image became a major headline subject in our industry. Every major trucking association seemed to get on the band wagon to promote a positive image of the trucking industry.

Finally in closing out 2014, the dramatic decrease of fuel prices are a major topic of discussion. The low fuel prices have me a bit worried as well as excited. To be excited about this takes no explanation however what worries me is that people will drop their guard and the high prices can return quickly as they have many times in the past.

Best wishes to all of you for a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!
