Mid America Truck Show 2009, while walking through the show we saw a lonely guy standing in the Blue Tec booth next to a rather large tank with a DEF sign.  Most attendees took one look at that tank and pretended the tank and Miguel were invisible.

Not us we knew DEF was in our future and we wanted to learn all we could before we purchased.  This is how we first met Miguel Soetaert, at the time, Group Leader of Component Optimization for Detroit Diesel.  Little did we know how much meeting him was going to change our lives.  The booth was not busy and Miguel had time to talk about DEF, about the DD engines, and the Cascadia.  Miguel listened as Bob explained our operation, our current truck, and what we wanted out of our next vehicle.  We quickly figured out that Miguel has an insatiable curiosity about truck drivers and trucks and he wanted to see our current truck/sleeper combination and he made plans to visit our M2 after the show.

Miguel was without a vehicle and Henry Albert was kind enough to give him a ride and this is how Henry came into our lives.  Through these two people we continued to meet many more of the engineers that were building the engine we knew would fit well into our business plans.  In time we were able to tour the Detroit plant in Michigan and this is how we met Pam Esshaki, who educated us on the history of the DD engines and also the future.

Over the next few years we continued our research and education before we made the final decision to purchase our 2012 day cab Cascadia with a DD13.  We were able to drive our truck as a day cab, then we waited while our Bolt 100" custom sleeper was added and the 22' Supreme box was mounted on the double frame.  The Caffcadia was the featured truck in our carrier’s booth at MATS in March of 2011.  Since then she has been in several truck shows and always causes a sensation.

Being inquisitive is an asset and we have sure met some amazing people. Look at yourself Frank you are a very interesting person who we have sure enjoyed meeting and learning about how you make a living. Craig, we have not had the chance to meet you but I am looking forward to the day that happens. So many people have enriched our lives and also given us the chance to learn and expand our horizons. The opportunities abound when we open our minds and our eyes to learn more from others. The chance to be involved with Team Run Smart is a chance we plan to take full advantage of to meet new people and share the knowledge we have gained over the years.

Being new to DEF, having driven an '05 EGR engine previously, I would love to talk to Miguel about the advantages of DEF and SCR technology. I am sure I will be talking with Henry as well on this during my driving of the Cascadia Evolution.

I have always loved how sleek your truck looks and how seamless and clean the daycab mounting to the sleeper is! Love that Caffcadia!
