Once our girls started school I went to work at our local courthouse and I started using the phrase.  As the girls aged and I continued my 9 - 5 job I used TGIF and hump day with meaning as the weekend meant a time to enjoy  many events.

Both girls were involved in school activities and had many 4-H projects with Bob and I the 4-H community leaders.  We hit the ground at a run on Friday evening and we stayed at a fast pace until Sunday night enjoying every minute of our time.

Then the girls graduated high school and took off for college and we left home to see the country in a truck.  What a change in our thinking immediately; TGIF or hump day had no meaning.  The sayings were even further driven from our minds once we became owner operators and staying out for months at a time.

Most of the time we do not know what day it is only worrying about the actual date for our paperwork.  We slip from one day to the next looking forward to getting up and seeing another part of the country.

Time slips by even faster with no worries about what day of the week it is or constantly wishing it were Friday and dreading Mondays.  Trucking has its own sets of problems and as winter nears I am not looking forward to driving on snow and ice.  Those thoughts do not weigh heavy on my mind, as I know we are never stuck in an area of the country.

We enjoy every day we are on the road and when we go home we enjoy every day there.  So now the saying for us is TGI TODAY!

Bob and Linda started their driver careers after their children left home for college in 2000. Bob started as a driver for a large motor carrier with Linda as a rider. They decided to enter the Expedite industry as team drivers in 2005 and purchased their first Freightliner. Both, Bob and Linda have had their Class A licenses since the early 80's starting out driving in the oil field and hauling grain as fill in drivers where Bob worked as a diesel mechanic. My operation is much like Jeff Clarks so I keep track of the day for the 168 hour part of the 34 hour restart. Remember its a 168 hours to the hour when before you can begin your next restart.

When we are on a fire, weeks, days and hours have no meaning. We are either working day shift or night shift and sometimes 24 hours straight. It is nice not to have to worry about the calendar, we are having so much fun that we just get lost in what we are doing and we are getting paid!!! When you love what you do and it's your passion you never "work" a single day!!!

Jimmy we made the mistake of taking a load out of Las Vegas and had to leave Ontario California on a Friday afternoon. That will only happen once.... That traffic was amazing all of the way to Las Vegas.

Frank I agree with you! When we are away from home we are having a great time and when we are home we have a great time.

Since we do not run in a dedicated area we are not familiar with local traffic problems and we go with the flow of the traffic or in the case of many cities the stop and go flow.

I share your thoughts on the traffic Jeff! I know that TGIF for me means I need to try and be parked by 2pm on that day or I am in a world of hurt, as everyone is rushing out of the area for Vegas or the Colorado River.

There is nothing better doing what you have a passion for and getting paid for it.

Day of the week comes into planning for me as far as going through Chicago too. Always trying to avoid rush hour traffic especially on Friday afternoon.

Time is always a factor the day is not in our operation. I do enjoy the seasons now much more then I did when we lived in Kansas.

I don't think I would know what day it is if I did what you do either. For my operations _ I generally leave on Sunday and return on Friday-I keep track. With the new 168 hour rule for the 34 hour restart I have had to become keenly aware of days and time.
