It is the end of October and time for our 2nd Annual Truckin' Runners Virtual 5k. This is different than any other 5k. We are truckers and people in the industry. We live all over the country. We work different shifts. We have different days off. The idea of getting all of us together in one place at the same time is impossible. The idea of the virtual 5k was one of necessity. Any time and any place between October 26 – 31 run or walk a 5k and document it. I plan on joining a local 5k at the same time as I run my virtual 5k. I get 2 T shirts for the effort of one. Truckin' Runners are selling T shirts for the race for $25 each. The net proceeds will benefit the St. Christopher's Fund. We have two goals. The first one is to get you out and moving. The second one is to raise money for the St. Christopher's Fund. All you have to do to register is by emailing jon.narron@gmail.com . Tell Jon your age at the time of the race. Specify are you running or walking. When you do your 5k – verify it by taking a picture of your GPS device and email that to Jon. You can also run a local 5k and use their results and mail that in to Jon. T shirts are available for purchase. The cost to you of the T shirts is $25. I bought 2, one each for my wife and I. There is a $5 shipping and handling charge. It is my hope that you will find a local 5k and join in. You can get 2 T-shirts and run an actual 5k while you are running a virtual 5k. The importance of spreading a positive face of trucking can not be overstated. Misconceptions can be wiped out with one conversation. Our public image is not the greatest. Attending events like this blows stereotypes out of the water. Wear a dri fit shirt that has something positive and non threatening about trucking. I like to wear a “truckin runners” shirt. I also have a Freightliner Run Smart shirt that I run in. The running community is accepting and encouraging. Getting involved with local runners and walkers is a good thing. If you can't find a local event – no problem. Find a way to record your run or walk. I use an “old fashioned” GPS watch. There are other ways to record it, that are beyond my level of technological savvy (ineptitude). Go out move a little. Have fun. Meet new people on line and in person. Even raise some money for a great cause.
