Many truck drivers find it difficult to maintain a consistent exercise program. Truckers often get stereotyped for being out of shape. Irregular work schedules, eating food high in calories and long hours sitting behind the wheel can take its toll on the health of a driver.
During this year’s 2013 Mid-America Truck Show in Louisville, KY Freightliner Trucks unveiled the first OEM-designed and integrated in-cab exercise and flexibility system.
For those drivers who want to make the effort to improve or maintain a healthy lifestyle, Freightliner in collaboration with Rolling Strong – a leader in driver wellness programs developed the (FIT) system which provides a simple and convenient exercise program supporting physical activity.
The FIT system is designed to be used inside Freightliner’s long haul trucks and features a triple-grip handle, enabling the user to interchange resistance levels. FIT connects to brackets installed to existing mounting points in sleeper cab tractors and can be configured to provide up to 150 lbs. of resistance to each arm. The system is easy to attach and use. The program includes a training manual and instructional video which suggests various strength, flexibility and cardiovascular exercises. The cost is $69.95 and is compatible with Freightliner’s current Cascadia and Coronado sleeper-cab models and for retro-fitting in Century Class and Columbia sleepers.
I’m not sure about anyone else but for me as I get older, keeping in shape and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a daily challenge. I’ve always been an active person and weight was never a problem. I seem to gain some extra pounds when my work schedule increases and my activity level decreases. Diet and nutrition play an important role here as well. As drivers, it’s very important to make healthy meal and snack choices. Years ago, I made the decision to no longer take any unhealthy food or snacks in the truck
.
After the Mid-America Truck Show, I began to use the FIT program and have found it easy to install. Also, it’s very convenient and light in weight. I usually take walks when loading/unloading and now use this in truck exercise system as well.
