I found Waldo and delivered a truckload of snow throwers there. Truck drivers are an essential part of our economy. We provide the essential service of getting products to market. Overall our industry does an incredible job of safely delivering American made goods to small towns all across the nation. This was a load of snow throwers from Willard, OH to Waldo, WI. I am proud of the fact that these people in Willard, OH make a quality product. It was great to meet the people in Waldo, OH who put a quality product in the hands of their customers. In turn those customers can clear their driveways and sidewalks of snow and keep it moving forward.

Truth is that I already knew about where Waldo was. It is between Plymouth and Random Lake. I pass by there on a fairly regular basis. It is a spot on highway 57 that I fear getting a ticket. It is a 45 MPH speed zone on a 55 MPH highway that happens to be at the bottom of the hill. Although, I had been by there on many occasions, I had never turned west on Highway 28 and never actually stopped in the village. That changed.

The delivery was to Waldo Implement. I arrived at the shipper well before my appointment and was told that they would keep the appointment and it would be about 2 and a half hours before I was loaded. Too bad, I was hoping for a leisurely trip across US 20 in Indiana and spending the night in Waldo. As it was, I took the time to find exactly where Waldo Implement was and to see if there was room to park a truck there. There was, and there was also Waldo Pub and Cafe within walking distance. Maybe I could watch the last inning or two of the World Series Game on TV.

As it turned out I had 10 minutes left on my 14 hours with 30 miles to go and I pulled into a non modern parking area and did 8 hours in the bunk. I then proceeded to Waldo and arrived about 2 hours ahead and went off duty. I parked at the dealer and walked to downtown Waldo (population 503) and had breakfast at the Waldo Pub and Cafe (also known as Tiffany's). Yes, it was the same place and no the pub was not open. I truly enjoy exploring small towns and learning about these quaint places.

Politics was the talk of the day. Mostly, people just wanted the election to be over. One of the customers had a hat on from the implement dealer. I told him that I had a load of snow throwers for them. It turned out that he was a customer of theirs. Then he informed me that the boss wouldn't be there today. He had another appointment.

Then I walked back to the customer. The young man in the shop informed me that he would be unloading me today because the boss wasn't going to be in. I said I know because the boss has another appointment today. Without batting an eye he said yes, and asked how my breakfast was. Welcome to Waldo and small towns everywhere. And if you ever have the pleasure of stopping in Waldo, make sure to have breakfast at Tiffany's.

Nice article Jeff. There is an amazing world to explore and experience when you get off the beaten path and away from the daily hustle and bustle. I find many small places like this in my line of work and I do enjoy exploring and learning about them.
