The new 2018 Freightliner Cascadia features a sleek aerodynamic design. The truck offers redesigned improvements inside and outside.

I wanted to focus on the inside of the truck as I’m so impressed with the new cabin and all that it offers. As drivers, our job can wear on us some days. On the road we deal with challenges when it comes to deadlines, weather conditions and traffic. It sure is nice to know that the engineers at Freightliner had us in mind when creating this new truck.

Various improvements were made to the interior to reduce noise levels. Not only is the ride quiet but engineers developed an optional insulation package using 3 M Thinsulate technology. Also, a new engine mount was created to provide better vibration isolation, and the engine tunnel cover is now constructed using Quiet Steel technology. A third door seal was added which reduces noise levels.

An ergonomically designed wraparound dashboard offers switches and steering wheel controls, which allows easy access for drivers. No more stretching or leaning over to reach buttons. The placement of the instrument cluster and digital gauges make for easy viewing.

When I first entered the new Cascadia’s cabin, I was pleasantly surprised to see all the custom living-space options. The design is air craft inspired and offers larger passenger and driver side storage cabinets. The wardrobe cabinet has expanded adding four inches of additional hanging space. I really like the Driver Lounge features which include a larger microwave cabinet and larger refrigerator space. The new Cascadia offers a large mounting area to handle a 26 inch flat screen TV. The cabinets and shelving are angled towards the outside walls in order to prevent stored items from shifting or moving to the front of the cabinet.

The common double bunk bed option offers a telescoping ladder rated at 400 lbs. I will be using the new two-seat dinette/work table with seats to enjoy a meal, complete paperwork and other business related activities. These items fold flat to allow a full Murphy-style bed to come down when needed for rest. This 72” raised roof Driver Lounge comes standard with LED ambient lighting and dimmer switch to suit whatever lighting you may need. There is several DC power outlets offered. However, if you require added power in the sleeper, this truck offers a variety of powerful inverter and inverter pre wire options which give power to AC-powered items.

I am excited to drive the new 2018 Freightliner Cascadia with all its new added features and design improvements. This truck is sure to maximize productivity and profitability for the driver. I look forward to sharing my performance and driver comfort analysis with you in the near future.
