4th Annual Virtual 5k
This October 22-28 our Truckin' Runners Facebook group will be hosting our 4th Annual Virtual 5k to benefit the Saint Christopher's Fund. Last year we raise over $700. This year we are hoping to top $1,000. There is no cost to register and join the 5k. You can do this through visiting our Truckin' Runners FB page. Follow the link there. If you wish to purchase a shirt, the cost is $25 plus $4.99 in shipping and handling costs. You can also make an additional donation to the Saint Christopher's Fund on that page.
It is impractical to try to get together in one place or time. Gregory Snow came up with the idea. Jon Narron made it work. Cheryl Fleming kept it going and growing. We could run a 5k anytime during the week and record our time. We can also run it any place. I will run a "provisional" 5k on a treadmill. Then I will be joining a local 5k - the Spooky Sprint 5k in Green Bay, WI on October 28th.
It has always been our goal at Truckin' Runners to encourage people in the trucking industry to exercise. This industry demands a lot from all of us, not just the professional drivers. Developing and maintaining an exercise program is a challenge for anyone. The long and irregular hours in our industry increase that cahallenge. "It ain't easty, but it is worth it." We don't care how you exercise. All forms of exercise work, only if you actually do them.
We encourage everyone. It does not matter if you are able to walk a 20 minute mile for the first time in a decade, or if you just ran a marathon in less than 4 hours. We understand how hard it is. We do it. We also know lots of places to run, bike, or walk near truck parking.
We also value the local 5k, and encourage our members to sign up. Most local 5ks benefit a local charity. They give the professional driver an opportunity to mingle with people who value fitness. You can put a face on professional drivers and show the local runners that we are indeed human and their neighbors.
SO HOPE TO VIRTUALLY SEE YOU OUT THERE DOING THE 5K
THANKS
