As many of you know, I employ the Hendrickson OPTIMAAX liftable pusher axle as part of the rear suspension assembly on our Freightliner Cascadia named Celeste. In previous blogs, I demonstrated many advantages of having a liftable axle on my truck and trailer. Another benefit of having the liftable axle is that at most toll booths you are only billed for the number of axles that are on the ground. By being able to go from 5 axles on the ground to as little as 2, if I am bobtail, I can generate substantial savings when I utilize toll roads on my weekly runs.
