Keeping a healthy lifestyle while on the road can sometimes be tricky, but it’s far from impossible. By combining healthier eating with a short workout and establishing good lifestyle habits, you can help keep yourself healthy and in shape throughout the year.
This fall, Bob Perry, also known as The Trucker Trainer, will be joined by Freightliner Trucks, Team Run Smart, Rolling Strong Wellness Coaches and representatives from the Truckers Rolling Against Hepatitis C campaign for the Driver Wellness Tour.
With two of the tour stops already completed there are still two left to go in Tampa, FL and West Ontario, CA on November 4 and December 2. The tour stops are located at TravelCenters of America. TravelCenters of America and their sister company, Petro Stopping Centers, were selected to be partners for the tour because of their dedication to driver wellness. Out of the 120 total locations, 53 of them include either onsite fitness rooms or outside fitness stations. Another 26 even offer outdoor basketball courts.
TravelCenters of America and Petro Stopping Centers have developed StayFit, which is a combination of healthy food options, exercise, and information to keep drivers on the path to a healthier lifestyle.
At each of the tour stops, drivers will have the opportunity to work out with the FIT System, which is the Freightliner In-cab Training System, co-developed by Rolling Strong, which you can find installed in the new Freightliner Cascadia. You will also have the opportunity to meet Team Run Smart PRO Jimmy Nevarez at the Ontario, CA tour stop and work out with Rolling Strong CDL wellness coaches to check your blood pressure, weight and BMI.
In addition, you will be able to speak with representatives from the Truckers Rolling Against Hepatitis C campaign, who will be on site at each stop to share important information on hepatitis C, a disease of the liver caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV), and get a free on-site hepatitis C test with the OraQuick HCV Rapid Test. The test requires just a simple fingerstick blood sample, and provides lab accurate results in just 20 minutes. While 5.2 million people in the U.S. have been exposed to or are infected with HCV, most have no symptoms. Drivers are encouraged to stop by to take advantage of this free test. Last, but certainly not least, you are going to want to take part in the Rolling Strong Big Rigger Fitness Challenge. Drivers will be competing to see who can pump the most reps using a Michelin truck tire. The driver that has the most reps at each of the tour stops will receive a free FIT System and a Big Rigger t-shirt. Bob Perry will be competing against the driver with the most reps from the tour in West Ontario, CA on December 2.
