This month my wife, Karen and I will celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. As I take a look back over the years, they sure have flown by quickly. These have been wonderful years shared together and I consider Karen to be not just my wife but business partner as well.
Karen didn't know much about the trucking business when we started in 1996. She had to learn just about everything from scratch in this business other than "sales."Prior to the start of our trucking company, she worked for 14 years in the hotel business. Her experience was in corporate sales, meeting planning and catering. She worked for luxury hotels and resorts. We made a great team as she assisted with sales and all the administrative duties. I took care of driving and maintenance of the equipment. Over the years, she has been an integral part of the business and we have grown as a team and learned from eachother. I wouldn't want to run this company without her as she is my best friend and business partner.
Having the right person to assist you can make all the difference in your success as an owner/operator. Being able to count on someone at home makes things run smoothly and affords you time to rest when you get home. Otherwise, your trying to do it all yourself. Driving, sales, dispatch, administrative, cleaning and maintenance takes many hours out of a day.
As I reflect on 24 years of marriage and 16 years in business together, I wouldn't want to have any other person beside me on this journey
