Industrial Parks and Green Space
I had crossed over this little trail hundreds of times. It is close to where I keep my truck. Like, many industrial park trails it is not incredibly scenic. It winds between warehouses, mechanical shops, manufacturing plants, and others. It is not much to look at, but it does provide a safe place to get in a morning walk, or a convenient place to jog while you are getting loaded.
This one is in an industrial park at the extreme southwest part of Green Bay. It borders De Pere, WI. The industrial park borders on US 41 on the east. Packerland Drive is on the west. Waube Lane/Oneida Ave is the northern border. County G and Main Street De Pere is the southern border. There aren't any no parking signs on the east west streets inside the park. This industrial park is similar to thousands across the country.
Usually, since my car is parked there, I drive the 3 miles to the more scenic Fox River Trail. This mo
rning I decided to save the time and gas and just walk over to the industrial park trail. The pictures here are from this particular trail. The trail met my expectations. It is only about 3 miles long. It runs north and south through the middle of the park. It is well marked.
There are trails like this in many industrial parks. They often run along a non navigable water way, like a creek or a stream. The land is often set aside as a flood plain. Many of these trails are unmarked. You might see a sidewalk with no markings. If you see a larger space between buildings, it is probably a trail. Might as well check it out.
With today's restrictive HOS and ELDS, we can make more effecient use of our time by parking at our customer's over night. As you drive into these industrial parks, look for places to take a walk. Some of the more modern parks have side walks. These work just as well. I have found more effecient ways in and out of customers while on walks or runs. Keep an eye out for places to walk inside industrial parks and share them with others. People in the truckin' runners and rideandroll facebook groups are constantly sharing places like this. Comment here if you know any, and help your fellow drivers.
