Many years ago, we threw out the sugary snacks in favor of nuts of all kinds. We like the raw nuts and create our own combination. Personally, I am a huge fan of squash nuts and order them online as I have a hard time finding squash nuts that are not salted. Bob usually buys his assortment of nuts at Target and then mixes them all together.
The variety of nuts are placed into a large two-gallon size baggie and mixed. Then Bob uses one of the containers that the nuts came in from Target to keep a small mixed amount of nuts in. When he starts driving he grabs the container of nuts and places it beside him. He then refills as needed from the two-gallon baggie.
Another snack that both of us have been enjoying is a variety of cut up vegetables. While shopping we pickup an assortment of vegetables that we like. If I can find them washed and sliced I purchase these to save myself time, effort, and water. Usually on the weekend I will slice the vegetables and then put a mixture in baggies that we can grab before we start driving.
The vegetable mixture varies each week to keep them interesting and fun to eat. The vegetables are crispy and delicious. When I am looking for vegetables I want everything to be as fresh as possible so that they will last at least a week in baggies. I use the sandwich baggies as they are inexpensive and hold just the right amount.
