Combine a Spicy food with Protein
Spicy foods have a compound called capsaicin that is found in hot peppers and increases calorie burn. Protein will help you to stay fuller for longer. Adding a spicy pepper, green chilies, or hot sauce to the top of the grilled chicken or other protein is a win-win combination. Personally, I like spicy food so this is a great combination for me!
Combine a Carbohydrate food with a healthy fat:
One of the comments in this section of the article is that a carb-rich food by itself almost always makes you feel more hungry afterwards and I find this very true. In the afternoon when I find myself starting to drag, I start looking for a pick me up. My favorite is to combine natural peanut butter or almond butter with sliced up apples. I have to watch myself though, as I will cut the apple into small
pieces and then want to add more of the nut butter to dip the apple into.
Combine a high fiber food with water:
Foods that are high in fiber help to stabilize blood sugar levels and keep you feeling fuller longer. What I didn’t know is that drinking water with a high fiber food can keep you from having gastrointestinal issues. It is a given that drinking water with a cereal will help you to stay fuller longer. For those of us that like salads, drinking a glass of water with our meal is a great combination.
Combine vegetables with EVERYTHING:
Vegetables (not swimming in butter) are always a good choice at any meal. Vegetables take more energy to burn and are good for weight loss and health. Eating plenty of vegetables at every meal is a great way to keep your metabolism burning and to feel full.
All of these tips are easy to incorporate into any meal, and with a little common sense we can continue or get started on the road to a healthy life style.
