There are better veiws than looking up at the dentist light during your time off !!!

After returning home from The Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, TX, I was due for a dentist appointment. This visit was my third in a series of visits to correct a few minor issues I was experiencing in regards to my oral hygiene. Today went well and I won’t need to go back until my six month checkup which will be in February.

As a truck driver or any other traveling career professional, it can be difficult to secure dental visits on a regular basis. Most of the dental offices in my hometown are only open Monday – Thursday. My week almost always ends with me arriving home on Friday’s and therefore, it can be difficult to get an appointment. I’ve discussed my situation in regards to scheduling with my dentist and he does his best to work me in when he knows I’m in town and/or available. Even though we may find it a challenge to secure a routine check-up at the dentist, it’s very important that we take the time to go.

Good oral hygiene wards off harmful bacteria and microbes that can cause tooth decay, bleeding gums, and oral infections. Proper oral hygiene is also important in helping you stay healthy, especially if you have risk factors such as diabetes and heart problems.

To maintain optimal oral health, adults should brush their teeth at least twice a day, preferably after each meal and before going to bed. Flossing is also an essential part of an adult’s oral hygiene regimen. Poor hygiene can increase your chances of developing heart disease. Professional teeth cleanings will reduce the bacteria that cause inflammation and eventually lead to heart disease.

*Eating healthy snacks such as celery, carrots and apples can help clear away food loosely trapped in-between teeth. Reduce the consumption of drinks and snacks which have added sugar and you can reduce your chances of developing tooth decay.

Oral hygiene greatly affects overall long-term health. When it comes to dental care, prevention through daily cleaning and regular visits to the dentist office is better not only for your health, but for your budget.

Just made it in yesterday. My last appointment was abruptly cancelled due to a short planned trip to North Carolina. I much preferred the trip to North Carolina!!!

It is especially hard when your cleaning specialist is booked 3-4 months in advance like ours is. We solve it by making two appointments in the same week and the wife taking whatever one doesn't an out for me. It is amazing that the mouth is a gateway to good health and can help in so much disease prevention.

I can understand your frustrations as it is difficult to get our teeth worked on and have a follow up visit. We have dental appointments at Christmas time and the dentist is working with us. As soon as we get home the crown will be started and on December 31st the crown will be fitted.

I like to group my appointments. I may see a regular Dr.-dentist-optometrist in one day on a scheduled day "off"
