Luck and opportunity don't normally come in a box of cereal

“Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” (Lucius Annaeus Seneca)
“Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground.” (Theodore Roosevelt)
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” (Thomas Edison, American Inventor)
“Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get.” (Ray Kroc)

The above quotes are some of my favorite when it comes to talking about luck and opportunity.

How many opportunities do we miss in life? Most of the time, we are so engrossed in our problems and day to day lives that we let great opportunities pass us by. Other times, opportunity can be right in front of us “shouting” Here I am… I’m right here! but we choose to ignore it for various reasons. We may have fear of embarrassing ourselves, not measuring up or making a mistake.

If you’re seeking out opportunities in your life, it helps to open yourself up to situations which can create opportunities. Talking with people/ networking, having a good attitude, being a giving person, getting involved, being proactive and showing up can allow for opportunities to come your way.

I’ve been in the trucking business for many years. I worked for other companies and have owned my own trucking company since 1996. Success hasn’t always come easy and it’s been a lot of hard work, long nights and time spent away from loved ones.

Recently, I had someone say to me “wow, you’re really lucky to have achieved success in trucking.”

It’s my thought that we create our own path to success… it doesn’t just happen. For me, it was years of hard work and dedication to this industry. I’ve made many sacrifices along the way in hopes to make a positive impact in the trucking industry. If you don’t know me, you haven’t seen the years of hard work, blood, sweat and tears that it took to get to the place where I am today.

As you set out for a higher level of success in your life or business, remember these “Formulas to finding luck/opportunity.”

  • Give 110%
  • Work Hard. Hard work brings rewards and luck willingly climbs aboard.
  • Prepare, prepare, prepare. You don’t want to be unprepared when an amazing opportunity presents itself.
  • Don’t wait for opportunities, make everyday events extraordinary.
  • When one door closes, quickly open another door full of opportunity
  • When opportunity knocks, answer immediately and GIVE IT ALL YOU GOT!!!

Rules to live by and true words of wisdom! I love the quote from Ray Kroc, being a believer that behind true success you will find a good amount of sweat equity! If you are sitting around to wait for something to happen, it will often pass you by before you can get up and chase it! I always use the quote myself "don't make it easy, just make it possible", but I don't know where I got it from. Excellent article!
