Happy Saturday!  Today I will be talking about a topic on the minds of many truck drivers (and their families) which is how to manage your hectic schedule on and off the road.

I have found the most productive way for me to keep up on my obligations is to break down my work-time and home-time into a schedule.

Here is a pretty typical day for me:

  • Wake up 2 to 3 hours before I have to start my day
  • Coffee, email, social media. Time to gather thoughts and ideas, set reminders and plan my route
  • Morning walk
  • Breakfast
  • Shower and Hygiene
  • Roll out and start the day

Now this is of course a typical day on the road for me, but I try to keep a similar schedule when I’m home. Plans can and do change on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis, but I try to keep this routine as the core of my day.

When the day is methodically planned out, I have noticed that I get less stressed and I am less likely to forget something.

Planning can also be applied to the meals you eat and the clothing that you wear while out on the road. It is possible to meal-plan and take healthy food with you on the road! Having a fridge definitely makes this easier, but there are workarounds for every truck out there.

When it comes to the clothes that I wear, I prefer to lay out my next days’ wardrobe the night before. Trust me, if you ever happen to oversleep this tip might save you from missing a deadline.

So these are a few ways that I prevent poor performance with proper planning. If you have ideas or comments to add let everyone know in the comments section below. Till the next time keep the rubber side down.
